Kristiansand (formerly written Christianssand/Christiansand) is a city and a municipality in Agder county, and is also the county's administrative centre. Kristiansand is Norway's sixth largest municipality by population and had 111,634 inhabitants as of 1 January 2020.[5] The town of Kristiansand had 64,057[6] inhabitants as of 1 January 2019. The town is named after the Danish king Christian IV. Kristiansand borders Lindesnes in the west, Vennesla and Birkenes in the north, and Lillesand in the east. The inter-municipal activities in Knutepunkt Sørlandet include all these municipalities, as well as Iveland.
